WVU commit wins state title, other seasons end

It’s time for our weekly commit tracking update … and kudos to cutting edge rusher Aric Burton, who now has a shiny new State Championship ring on the way. Clearwater (FL) Academy International defeated IMG Academy, 54-22, to win the Sunshine State Independent Association title. The SSIA was created to get independent schools more involved in the playoffs, and the Knights and Burton took advantage of that.

Quarterback Nicco Marchiol’s enlistment saw his high school career end in a 31-24 state semi-final loss this weekend. Marchiol completed 15 of 21 passes for 200 yards and a touchdown, while rushing eight times for 70 extra yards. He ends the year with 201 shots of 272 for 2,641 yards and 36 touchdowns for just two interceptions. He also ran for 363 extra yards and eight scores.

Defensive back Mumu Bin-Wahad also saw his year come to an end, with Loganville (GA) Grayson being shut out by Collins Hill (GA), 31-0. Statistics for the game are not yet available but, prior to this game, Bin-Wahad had totaled 64 tackles and six steals during the year.

Check out highlights, stats and more for each player below. Then check back next week for more updates.
