The Troy Police Department honors three of its members for their exemplary service.
Among them is Andrew Lane, a five-year veteran of the department who was named Officer of the Year for 2021.
As stated in a press release, Lane’s primary function is in operations – considered “the backbone of any police department”. He is also an evidence technician and field training officer, described as “gifted in his ability to teach new officers”, which leads to their success.
Lane is also praised for his “consistently positive attitude and high level of effort”, which makes him indispensable in the department. In addition, it handles special missions; in 2018 he was selected for the Tactical Support Team and is a founding member of the Troy Police Peer Support Team.
Lane previously served in the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
Another honor goes to Sergeant Daniel Galich, named Command Officer of the Year 2021.
Galich is the supervisor of the department’s training section. As stated in the press release, “Dan constantly researches the latest trends in training management and emerging tactics and updates the course curriculum to reflect the operating environment. Sgt. Galich has managed multiple projects and led the training section in the research, testing and evaluation of several new equipment.He is a certified instructor in many disciplines of weapons, firearms, defensive tactics and active shooter response.
He is also an emergency management supervisor, overseeing the department’s COVID response, PPE preparation, and FEMA grant applications. His section is responsible for ensuring the availability of special response vehicles and purchasing emergency equipment.
Galich recently graduated from Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command, a 10-week program focused on leadership and management skills. He was hired by the Troy Police Department in 2004 and promoted to sergeant in 2019. He previously worked for the Canfield, Ohio Police Department. He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Youngstown State University and a master’s degree in management from Walsh College.
Police Department Aide Kathryn Bourlier is honored as the 2021 Unsworn Employee of the Year. Bourlier is assigned to the Community Services Section where she monitors and updates the department’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.
She has worked for four years and has participated in several events including Grade 5 Orange Safety Bowl, Autism Awareness, Halloween Bash, Schools-Out Bash, Thanksgiving Gift Card Drive, Shop with a Cop and Operation Blue Sleigh, Law Enforcement Torch Run and Special Olympics Michigan. Bourlier has also produced recruiting videos for the department. shot a video for employee recruitment efforts.
She is also trained as a police dispatcher.
Boulier joined the Troy Police Department in 2013 after working for Bloomfield Hills Public Safety. She holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and psychology from Eastern Michigan University.
