A preview of upcoming high school boys’ basketball sectional district tournaments involving teams in the area:

Premier League

Northeast 4 —Copley

Best seeds: 2 Brecksville Broadview Heights, 4 Cleveland Heights, 5 Shaker Heights

Other zone teams: 30 Lake Avon, 39 North Olmsted

Following: District champion advances to Kent State Regional

Northeast 5 — Catholic Elyria

Other zone teams: 27 Lorain, 19 Elyria, 26 North Ridgeville

Outlook: Westlake will make a return trip to the SWC as the Demons host North Ridgeville in the first round and face the winner of Elyria and Highland in a section final. The District Semi-Finals and Finals will be played at Elyria Catholic High School, meaning the Pioneers could have home-court advantage if they can survive and get past the first two rounds. However, whoever comes out of the section will most likely face last year‘s state semifinalist St. Ignatius in the semifinals. Lorain will hit the road to take on Copley. The winner will travel to Olmsted Falls for a section final.

Northeast 6 —Lakewood

Best seeds: 1 St. Edward, 8 Medina

Other zone teams: 11 Amherst, 14 Midview, 34 Avon

Following: District champion moves to Copley Regional

Outlook: The bad news for Amherst and Midview is that two defending district champions are in that bracket. Medina no longer has Corey Trip, but is still favored to advance to the district semifinals to face Amherst if the Comets can defeat the winner of 20th seed Maple Heights and 28th seed North Royalton. Midview is at the other end of the bracket. The Middies will face Avon, who are known to give some SWC teams problems in the regular season, even though they failed to win. The winner will face 22nd seed Garfield Heights or 16th seed Valley Forge in a sectional final. Meanwhile the winner of this match will most likely be St. Edward, who played in last year’s regional semi-final. The Eagles will face the winner of Berea-Midpark and Barberton in a section final.
