Obituary of William Pickett | Chattanooga Times Free Press


William E. (Bill) Pickett, 84, died at his home on March 30, 2022.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pat and his children, Gary (Dean) Pickett, Gayle (Brent) Gamble and Scott (Roseann) Pickett, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren as well as one sister , Mary Alspaugh.

Bill was predeceased by his brothers, Robert, Paul and Richard Pickett and his grandson, Andrew Gamble.

Bill attended Lutheran school, graduated from Central High School, and was of the Lutheran faith. He worked for 37 years at NCR where he made many lifelong friends.

Bill was very competitive when he played cards, chess or backgammon. He was the leader of the platoon in neighborhood basketball games or volleyball games in his front yard. Bill’s sense of adventure led him to enjoy duck and quail hunting, fly fishing, camping and rafting. He bought an army surplus raft and spent years guiding his family and friends on the Ocoee, Nantahala and Hiwassee rivers.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 9 from 4-6 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, Hwy 153, Hixson, TN.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the North Chickamauga Creek Conservancy, PO Box 358, Hixson, TN 37343 or Hospice of Chattanooga.
