Nicholas Fletcher Obituary (1983 – 2021) – Norfolk, Virginia

Nick, 38, died on September 26, 2021 following a plane crash in Fayette Co, WV. He was born on March 13, 1983; in Portsmouth, Virginia, and has lived his entire life in Chesapeake. He was a graduate of Deep Creek High School and James Madison University. Nick was a sought-after and well-respected telephony engineer, putting his skills to work in many Tidewater hospitals and school systems.

A wonderful father, Nick loved spending time with his children and family. He enjoyed flying, snowboarding, whitewater rafting, and spending time at the ancestral home on Kerr Lake with his friends and family. He loved to play golf and had his all-time best lap, a 73, in recent weeks. Nick was smart, generous, kind and funny. His humor ranged from the sharpest witty remarks to the most daddy-worthy jokes. In recent years, he has bred many dogs rescued from disasters in the Caribbean, with the expert help of his beloved furry babies Penny and Yin Yang.

He remains to be cherished in memory, his former wife, Cristina Taphouse Fletcher, and their children, Violet Grace and Jacob; mother, Karen Rhodes Smith, (Don); father, Frank “Hank” Fletcher, (Judy); grandmother, Violet McDaniel Fletcher; brothers, Zachary Fletcher (Sarah) and Evan Smith; sisters, Samantha Doughten (Reid) and Nicole Smith; aunt, Cheryl Fletcher Drum; cousin, Morgan Fletcher Drum; brother-in-law, Jeff Taphouse, (Maggie); partner, Hannah Braade and her daughter Gaia; nephew and nieces, Henry and Claire Doughten, Eliza and Maggie Fletcher and Ellie Taphouse; and too many friends to list.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Frank Fletcher; and his maternal grandparents, Alan and Harriet Rhodes.
