Margaret L. Gratton, 70, died Wednesday evening December 15, 2021 at her residence.

Margaret, affectionately known as Peggy, was born May 15, 1951 in Youngstown, Ohio, daughter of Gilbert and Jane Hays Boland.

Raised in Struthers, Peggy graduated from Struthers High School, Class of 1969. Peggy has worked for many factories in the Youngstown area and most recently worked as a sales assistant for the Salvation Army store. In her spare time, Peggy enjoyed working on her art, weaving baskets.

Volunteer and full of energy, Peggy was considered a leader for her family. She was a very practical woman and could do whatever she wanted. She loved being outside and took to riding her scooter in Mill Creek Park. His summers were spent jet skiing on Lake Milton, parasailing in Put-In-Bay, or ziplining and rafting in West Virginia and Pennsylvania. She loved music, attended concerts and danced swing at Les Cèdres every Thursday night. Her favorite writers were Dean Koontz and Stephen King, and she loved a good board game and did very well at Boggle.

What defines Peggy the most is her free spirit, fun and youthful demeanor. She loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She couldn’t wait to dress up for Halloween and at family gatherings Peggy would find herself playing with the kids on the playground. She would go so far as to get off the board, fly high on the swing, ride the spring rockers or bounce in the rebound. She focused on those she loved and her exuberant personality and zest for life will carry on with those who knew and loved her.

Her husband, Dennis, whom she married on November 18, 1977, passed away on July 27, 2019. She leaves in her memory two sons, Richard (Amber) Poole de Sebring and Benjamin Gratton of Austintown; one daughter, Rachel (Ryan Goettsch) Williams of Boardman; seven grandchildren, Rachael and Noelle Poole, Raven, Miranda, Arianna and Dayna Gratton, and Nicholas Diaz; and four great-grandchildren, Oliver, Dexter, Margot and Jae’anna.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Peggy was predeceased by her three brothers, Thomas, Hugh and Chester Boland.

Friends will be received Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A private burial will follow Tuesday at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
