Man dies in Yakima intersection Thursday shooting


A gang-linked shootout at a Yakima intersection on Thursday evening resulted in the death of an 18-year-old man.

Police are looking for two suspects today

Police are looking for two suspects responsible for the fatal shooting reported Thursday at around 6:00 p.m. at the intersection of South 20th Avenue and Nob Hill Blvd. Police, the 18-year-old victim, exchanged words with 2 men who then shot the 18-year-old and fled. The teenager then fell into the westbound lanes of Nob Hill Boulevard. where people tried to help him until the doctors and the police arrived. The man died instantly. Captain Jay Seely said officers spent more than 2 hours searching for suspects with a K9 officer, but no arrests were made.

Police hope for tips

The police are not stopping the search. They will spend the day today looking for those responsible. Officers from the Major Crimes Unit and the Gang Unit were at the scene Thursday and are continuing the investigation today.

This is the second shoot this month in Yakima

Prior to Thursday’s shooting, police were investigating an October 14 shooting in the 3rd Avenue and Yakima Avenue neighborhood. A man was shot at around 7:00 p.m. The man was taken to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Police said it was a car shooting and the victim was beaten while sitting in a vehicle in the area. The investigation is continuing. Police said they recovered a gun that they said was used in the shooting, but no arrests were made.
