Laurence Fishburne and Clifton Collins Jr. to Star in ‘Frank & Louis’ – Deadline

Laurence Fishburne (John Wick: Chapter 4) and Clifton Collins Jr (alley of nightmares) have signed on to star in the upcoming film Frank & Louis, which Petra Volpe directs for Participant, Zodiac Pictures and Tyler Perry’s Peachtree & Vine Productions.

In Frank & Louis, a man serving a life sentence (Collins) takes a job in prison caring for aging and infirm prisoners suffering from memory loss illnesses, including one played by Fishburne. What begins as a selfish mission for parole blossoms into a deep and transformative emotional relationship, offering a glimmer of redemption in an otherwise unforgiving place.

Volpe and Esther Bernstorff wrote the screenplay. The entrant will produce alongside Reto Schaerli and Lukas Hobi of Zodiac Pictures, and Perry and Tim Palen of Peachtree & Vine. Cora Olson serves as co-producer, with Participant’s Jeff Skoll and Anikah McLaren serving as executive producers. McLaren, Elizabeth Haggard and Connor DeSha will oversee the project for Participant.

Fishburne was nominated for an Oscar in 1994 for his role as Ike Turner in the Brian Gibson drama, What’s love got to do with it. During his career, he has also been honored with three Primetime Emmys and a Tony, among other accolades. He is best known for his role as Morpheus in The matrix franchise, and as John Wick Bowery King franchise. He will soon resume this role for John Wick: Chapter 4with other films in the works including the Tony Kaye drama Black water transitby Paul Feig The School of Good and Evilby Mikael Hafstrom slingshotRob Edwards’ Sneaks and Francis Ford Coppola Megalopolis. Fishburne’s last collaboration with Participant came as part of the cast of his 2011 thriller Contagion from director Steven Soderbergh, which grossed $136 million worldwide.

Collins is an Emmy and Independent Spirit Award nominee whose recent film credits include Guillermo del Toro alley of nightmaresby Kogonada After Yangby Clint Bentley Jockey and Tate Taylor Breaking News in Yuba County. The actor has also been seen in series including The stall, Westworld, Veronique Mars, Ballers and Thief, among others. Volpe is a Swiss-Italian writer-director whose film The Divine Order won three prizes at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2017, before being named the winner of the Swiss Academy for 2018. Her first film, Dreamlandwas nominated for four Swiss Film Awards, with her screenplay, Heidibecoming the most internationally successful Swiss film of all time.

Bernstorff is a German film and television writer whose drama 4 Konige was nominated for the German Film Award for Best Screenplay in 2016. The following year it won the German Television Academy Award in the same category.

The company previously announced a Madea origin story in development at Showtime titled My beauty and is in pre-production on a thriller with Blumhouse Studios titled To help.
